Berwick Rangers Under 19’s Match Report

Berwick Rangers newly formed under 19’s team got off to a winning start in their East of Scotland League Cup match in Edinburgh against Civil Service Strollers. Berwick found themselves two down within twenty minutes after goals by Mark Pentland and Kevin Walker but after raising their game fought back with a long range effort from Darren Archibald. Berwick continued to attack two goals one from a penalty scored by Sam Young which also saw Strollers defender Adam Cormack was sent off for deliberate handball on the goal line. Berwick made their superiority in numbers count immediately when they worked the ball down the left and fine cross from Cornish saw Johnny Simpson score with looping headed into the top corner to make it 3-2 at half time.
The second half saw Berwick take a 5-3 lead with goals from Sam Young and superbly taken back healed goal from Lewis Laidlaw. Berwick were coasting until Steven Mchoul was sent off after a second yellow card for a deliberate handball. Strollers had there tails up then and pulled a goal after the impressive Kevin Walker who completed his hat trick in the last minute of the game to make it 5-4. Berwick finished strongly to win there first competitive match.
Overall it was a fine performance the newly assembled Berwick squad who face another hard challenge at Old Shielfield this Sunday against Spartans in the League Cup kick Off 2.00pm
